He died in 2003.〔(In Memory: Rep. John Garcia )〕 He was the first Hispanic ever voted into the Ohio General Assembly.

Garcia was married to his wife Dolores and together they have 5 children: Gaye, John Jr., Thomas, Bruce, and Sue. Garcia and his wife used to live in Toledo, Ohio.〔 John also had wonderful life with his friends and family. He helped the community out all over the east side of Toledo. He was there to help anyone in need.
